• Water plants only when needed.
• Water your landscape when the temperatures are cooler and air is still.
• Adjust automatic irrigation systems to put water where it’s needed around plants. Not on driveways, sidewalks, etc.
• Remove weeds. They steal water needed by ornamental plants.
• Mow your lawn at a higher setting.
• Control runoff on slopes.
• Time your watering. This avoids forgetting to turn the water off.
• Check for leaks in toilets and irrigation systems.
• Take shorter showers.
• Turn off the water when you’re not using it.
• Don’t let tap water run while you’re shaving, brushing your teeth, etc.
• Flush toilets only when needed. Don’t use toilets to dispose of trash.
• Take shallow baths.
• Thaw food in the refrigerator, not under running water.
• Communicate smart water choices with your landscape professional.
• Sweep rather than hose down driveways and sidewalks.
• Wash your car using a bucket; rinse with hose that has a pistol grip shutoff.
